    How to Create Pre-Trade Habits

A pre-trade habit works best when it is tied to a clear trigger and takes less than a minute to complete.

    Key takeaways

    • Use the same trigger before every planned entry.
    • Keep the checklist short and specific.
    • Do not skip the routine after a win or loss.
This guide is for general educational purposes. It is not investment, legal, tax, or trading advice.

Use one trigger and five questions

Choose a trigger such as before I open the order ticket. At that moment, answer five questions: What is the setup? Where is the entry? Where is the stop? How much am I risking? What is the exit plan?

Use the same routine on ordinary trades, not only large ones. If the checklist becomes too long, remove anything that does not change the decision. The habit should create a pause, not a paperwork exercise.

    Where RulesFirst fits

RulesFirst gives traders a repeatable place to define setup, risk, stop, size, and exit before entry. That plan can remain available for supported live monitoring and later Plan vs. Actual review. RulesFirst does not choose the setup or approve the trade.

RulesFirst is read-only trading process software. It does not place, modify, route, or cancel orders, and it does not provide investment advice.
